Ran a club autocross today. Won STC with my 2012 Sonic. Was still some time left, looking at the videos. I'm working on uploading some more runs but this one was the fastest

Question for ya: what speed does second gear redline at in your Sonic?

Second? Not 100% sure off the top of my head. I'll check tomorrow but I think its in the 55-60 mph range.

Checked on the run in this morning. 2nd gear tops out at 62/3 mph.

Damn. I think there's a solid chance you'd be faster than an RS at autocross

2nd gear tops at 48 with the RS's transmission. If it's a fast course, I'm screwed. Look at this run, the course had a long slalom with a kink. I entered the slalom at 40+, so I had to shift into 3rd, and then at the kink I was downshifting. To people that don't autocross the fact that I screw up at the downshift looks like I suck at shifting, and while I'm certainly not a pro everything is happening so fast that it really messes with me. I probably could have stayed in third

At the next event I may actually experiment with doing the whole run in 3rd. As long as I'm doing 35+, I should probably be in 3rd gear.

Yeah, I've only topped second once on a course, and that was for all accounts a nationals style course with lots of speed (of course, that was still on stock all seasons so all my right foot was doing out of turns was controlling wheel spin). Next event at Z-max I'll be able to see how it does at high speed again.

Curious about the gearing on the RS. Probably feels "sportier" in normal driving, and maybe on a track, but yeah that shift point is right in the middle of your average speed on most auto-x courses. Staying in third would probably be your best bet even if it hurts you out of low speed sections

And yeah, watching your video now that would have been a solid second gear everywhere course. Do you have an external BOV?

I have the stock BOV but with DDMWorks intake it makes tons of noise.

Hmm interesting. Must be the fact I was using the sealed camera case. I've got the same setup and yours sounds a lot louder than mine for some reason.

It makes A TON of noise
